Vince has been an active player in Chicago's vibrant music scene for more than 30 years. He is known as a vocalist and guitarist steeped in the history of Rock n' Roll; a tireless supporter of the city's underground scene; a Chicago Reader-nominated "Best Venue Bartender" and is perhaps best-known as the leader of The Artist Formally Known as Vince Band, or "TAFKAVince Band" for the sake of brevity.
For the last 15 years, has been more focused on performing in full band Rock N Roll mode than as a solo singer-songwriter but it time has come again for both sides to share the spotlight. While continuing to book TAFKAVince Band shows for 2024, he is about to release a single to follow his 2019 "TAFKAVince" solo EP, Back Home.
Friday, February 2 will, appropriately enough, see the release of "February's Glare" and the digital 'B-side' "February Goodbye."
"February's Glare" was written a full year ago but came back to mind in Summer 2023 when Vince was looking for music for the TAFKAVince Band to work on but ultimately came up with a simple arrangement that he could do alone. Locked up in his studio, he played all instruments on the track (guitar, bass, piano, drums, all vocals). At the same time, he decided to pull "February Goodbye" from a solo album that he has been working on. "February Goodbye," also written in the namesake month but a couple years back, is the perfect pairing with "February's Glare."
Both songs were written adhering to FAWM or "February Album Writing Month" where the goal is to write 14 songs in 28 days. In that same spirit, "February's Glare" and "February Goodbye" are home studio, lo-fi recordings (and Vince even did the cover art himself) but were mastered by Carl Saff at Saff Mastering.
The new single and B-side directly follow TAFKAVince Band's acclaimed 2023 release A Problematic Opera.
