The Keyboard Time EP

Many years ago, (2011 according to iTunes data, but possibly even farther back) I recorded a song, So Much Time. Unlike most of my music, I wrote and recorded it on keyboard (well, actually my friend Kevin’s keyboard which I have been in possession of since the mid 90s). I’m not sure what lead me to write it. I was probably using the drum setting as a metronome or plunking out a few notes on a demo. Since then I’ve had in my mind to write and record a couple more songs for an EP. Flash to the beginning of 2020. I pulled out my keyboard (not Kevin’s) and was playing around. In February, I was on a writing binge and one day I say down at the keyboard and ended up writing Minuet. My wheels spinning again about an EP, I set a loose plan to spend some time over my spring break writing another song and doing some recording. Soon, like many people, I found myself working from home and my evening bartending job on indefinite hold. I had some time on my hands. One afternoon after finishing my work I wandered up to my practice space/studio and pulled out the air organ I found in an alley many years ago. I plugged it in and its wheezy sound inspired a song. Soon I had Hope, a maudlin but positive song possibly inspired by the current state of the world. It was the final piece of the puzzle. Since this was like my early days when I would write a song then lock up and record it, I decided to go back to the old days and record on my 4-track recorder. It’s a little weird and off kilter like the music that was coming out of my college town and inspiring me to start making music back in the 80’s. Thanks for giving it a listen.
